Heading North in May: Toward Library 2.0: Training, Technology, & the Big Picture

Greetings! Looks like I’ll be heading north to Minnesota this May for a 5 day, 5 city tour. I hope to meet up with some cool librarians, so if you live in Minnesota and are coming to one of these talks, please say Hi. I’ll be travelling with Mary Beth Sancomb-Moran, Community Information Librarian for SELCO(Southeastern Libraries Cooperating) and we’ll be visitng points all over the state, doing what looks like a whole bunch of driving and some talking about L2, tech training and opportunities for libraries to use social tools. I look forward to this exerience!

Library services are changing with the onset of Web 2.0 tools and changes in user’s perceptions of libraries. As new technologies and services become available, how do we effectively plan in libraries? How do we plan to optimize staff, money, and time? How do we determine what’s important? How do we move toward the models of user-centered service now known as Library 2.0?

This interactive workshop presented by Michael Stephens, author of the Tame the Web Blog and contributor to ALA’s TechSource Blog, will offer insights for planning, projects, and detail the hot technologies libraries are grappling with today. Blogs, wikis, RSS, podcasts and the next big thing are included in this dynamic session touring Minnestota in May 2006.
