Great post, Michael! You said: “”We can all be trendspotters. We can all watch for trends that impact not only the profession but our specfic communities and user groups.” and that is the key — we cannot prophecy or predict the future but we can discover what is going on for our users: what is making them work differently, what are they using as helpmates, how do they perceive their future work, what is exciting to them, what is easy for them, what is hard for them. If we ask them about their work and not about what they need from the library we will find out where we can intersect with their lives and bring forward useful products, services, and dialogues.

So what I want to know is – where do you find the time to write this? :-)
