A public “Thank You” to Louise Berry, John Berry, Alan Gray and John Blyberg for the dinner and incredible conversation my last night at ALA. I learned so much listening to the discussions about Darien Library’s new building and new models of staffing. This is a library to watch as they build their new library and plan for the most effective use of staff, money and resources they can.
After hearing how the library will involve all levels of staff in decision making and collection development, I had to ask Louise: “What should I be teaching in library school?” What should our MLIS students come to you prepared to do?”
“Be leaders,” she said. “Be innovators. They should be the ones watching and planning for the future.”
Wowza. Thank you to all at the table that evening.

So glad you could make it. We could’ve continued that discussion for hours, but I think it was midnight by the time we left! Thanks for joining us.
