One of the upsides of Twitter is that people post less short status information to their blogs...

Not necessarily, John. Some people use services like LoudTwitter to post their tweets to their blog, so there's even MORE noise on the blogosphere.

I'm starting to delete the feeds of the blogs I [used to] read when the tweets show up regularly. I don't have time for that.

One of the upsides of Twitter is that people post less short status information to their blogs, and that means less noise on the blogosphere. But I also get the feeling that people are investing less in their blogs because their energy is shifting to Twitter. That's unfortunate.
