Hi Michael

I am currently a graduate
student in the MLIS program at UW-Milwaukee. I'm just starting out.

My current assignment is to "Identify a research problem in information studies and
develop an applied research proposal and pilot study to investigate that
problem."

The thought behind my paper is to explore the extent of current and planned uses
for the specific application of social networking tools with the intent of
building community in the library environment.

So far in my research, yours is the only survey I have turned up. Either there has not been much in the way of quantitative analysis of this recent phenomenon of Library 2.0 (or I really am not very good at this research thing). Did you publish the results of your survey anywhere?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

- Michael

The patrons complained about the fact that they had to walk a block and staff didn't. After numerous complaints, the signs were removed for the department heads but the director's spot remained. That failed to stop the complaints; finally the director's spot was removed as well. It's now a firing offense for any staff member to park in the library's lot.

When the email went out to campus with the info, dozens of students emailed the dean of the libraries saying how much they loved the humor of the different zones of quiet, and that they wished the library wrote all of the all-campus emails.

It's a clever idea and most people follow the rules if they are clearly displayed. The standard top-down red/yellow/green stoplight configuration is great the way it is; however, you could consider reversing the floors so the top level is AT the top, etc. The floor layout would then match the stoplight configuration.
