Stacy L. Creel Appointed New Editor of VOYA

Good news about my colleague and UNT cohort member Stacy Creel! Congrats Stacy!

Stacy L. Creel, a well-known YA librarian and educator, has been named the new editor of VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates) by the magazine’s publisher, The Scarecrow Press, Inc.

Creel has held positions in children’s/YA departments in Houston, New York, and Tallahassee public library systems. In addition, she is an active member of the American Library Association’s YA Library Services Association (YALSA) and is currently serving as the co-chair of the YALSA Pre-conference “Tweens & Reading” program for the 2008 annual conference, and is a member of YALSA’s Printz Awar Committee for 2008-2009.

VOYA and Scarecrow Press publisher, Edward Kurdyla, said, “We’re very excited about the fresh new potential Stacy brings to VOYA. The magazine has grown tremendously over the past ten years, and now it’s poised to jump to the next level. Stacy has the skills, background, and enthusiasm to lead this publication into the future.”

Creel is currently a full-time faculty member of the St. John’s University Division of Library and Information Science in New York. She will retain her faculty position in conjunction with her new responsibilities as VOYA editor.

Creel earned her Ph.D. in Library & Information Science at the University of North Texas at Denton, an Advanced Masters/Speciali$t Degree in Youth Services and Master of Science in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University at Tallahassee, and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Mississippi at Oxford.
