I am proud to say that during my leave, the good IT folks at my library finished making the whole library system wifi compatible! Read about it here: http://lishost.org/~sjcpl/archives/000085.html This morning, I’m IMing with SJCPL staffer Sean who said this week on his floor — the magazine/fiction area –he saw a Powerbook user, a windows PC person doing homework AND a Palm user checking movie descriptions to find soimething in our AV department. Welcome one and all to the Wireless World!
Hot Darn! This is the coolest AND this is the future folks…. Ponder this: how will the fact that I can stream MP3 and AAC to my stereo from my Mac impact libraries and their collections?
LITA Top Technology Trends ? An ALA Congrunt (Note: no wifi makes it into the Ballroom of the Peabody Hotel but the Lobby upstairs offers free WiFi! I?ll post this after the session.) Ok – The moderator said the names so quickly, said them only once and the room was so full that I never caught them in the way I should have. I will come back and edit this soon but I wanted to post it now before I leave the lobby of the Peabody! Take a look at this page of contributors at LITA’s Web site. Speakers: Eric […]
Having lunch at Dan Marino’s and finding it’s a Wifi Hotspot! Off to LITA’s Top Tech trends program…
Rock ON Aaron… 100 IM questions to his PL’s screename. He writes: “For no cost not only have we become more available, but I’ve helped patrons that otherwise wouldn’t have been helped. I’ve done more Young Adult Readers’ Advisory in the past 2 months than I have in the previous 2 years. YAs have sent me messages asking about the library’s hours, and prizes for summer reading program. I bet that these things aren’t a big enough deal for them to make a telephone call, but shooting me a quick message is more convenient. Perhaps this is grandiose, but I […]
Caught before the class: Jenny, Aaron & Bob
Within an hour of my posts about wanting a gmail address…. I had two replies! Jeff Godin, library IT guy, from — guess where — TRAVERSE CITY IMed me! Thanks so much Jeff! Our deal? When I’m in TC I’ll buy him a coffee and will talk library tech for a bit! Coolness! Jeff also gave me my invitation to Orkut back a few months ago and started a library community there. I am now available at tametheweb (at) gmail (dot) com Then I got an e-mail from Susan Vaughn at the Suffolk University Law Library. We chatted via e-mail […]
Channel 16 RSS feeds! I was tickled this am to see our local NBC affiliate has added RSS to their Web site! The format for sharing content certainly is gaining ground! I checked the Web site of the CBS affiliate — WSBT — and they have not added RSS as of yet.
Jenny writes: “And that’s not even counting today’s adults that are already sitting at Panera every morning, surfing while sipping.” Uh oh! That’s me for sure! Take a look at Jenny’s note about wifi success from Steve Oberg, who I’ve chatted with a few times.
