Matt Gullett writes a thoughtful post about making connections in library MySpace classes: http://youthtech.wordpress.com/2006/10/15/myspace-for-parents-pt-2/ I had one very thankful mother of a daughter that has had problems in the past with her MySpace page and usage. They are about to allow her access again and just want to make sure that they know what they are getting into. She seemed to be a very concerned parent that wanted to allow for some freedom and flexibility, but also wanted to keep her daughter safe and honest to who she is. Honest in the sense of things that she was writing and […]
Via Jenny: http://www.llrx.com/columns/tao8.htm Connie Crosby interviews Michael porter about Flickr: So, the Libraries and Librarians Group is the biggest, most active and successful library related group on Flickr. From its inception, it has been a real joy to work with the folks who have decided to make it a “living” online community. I have learned so much from the images I’ve seen there and the people I’ve met in this group. My fellow group administrators and I have been able to set up collaborative group tagging projects and a group mash-up project too. I’ve even have had the opportunity to […]

Did you know Facebook was shutting down accounts for libraries? Hi Michael — It was a pleasure to meet you at the Kentucky Library Association Conference. This is the link to my post about the UK Libraries Facebook profile being shut down: http://sla-divisions.typepad.com/itbloggingsection/2006/09/librarys_face bo.html We’ll be posting updates as we have them. Best, Stacey Greenwell Head, Desktop Support University of Kentucky Libraries This will be interesting to watch. I wish you the best getting access to your content!
Via UnitStructures: http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=2210227130 This doesn’t mean that anyone can see your profile, however. Your profile is just as closed off as it ever was. Our network structure is not going away. College and work networks still require an authenticated email address to join. Only people in your networks and confirmed friends can see your profile. Fascinating. I am curious to see how this plays out. Here’s my profile for Dominican: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=34901340
Is your library afraid of Flickr, when other libraries like this one are using it to adavantage? Sarah writes: Michael: Recently you posted about Mickey’s 16 cool uses for using Flickr at a library. I’d like to pass on a new example we have at the Johnson County Library. Our Lackman Branch (we have 13 branches! Wow!) created a Flickr account to give everyone a virtual tour of their branch. They even included photos on the staff side! Just wanted to pass on the Flickr goodness! http://www.flickr.com/photos/11329886@N00/sets/72157594291410121/ Beta forever, Sarah aka veggienerd.wordpress.com Thanks sarah.
