See you at SAMM

I am really getting excited about my upcoming trip to Atlanta. I’m keynoting the SOLINET Annual Membership Meeting. Here’s the blurb for the conference: Practical approaches to innovation are being implemented in libraries across our region. Giving your users the services they want and the information they need is key. But what solutions work best for your user community?  What will be most realistic for your organization?  And what have other libraries done in response to changing user needs? The coolest thing is the closing keynoter is Karen Schneider. I’ll be there both days to enjoy the conference and the Emory Conference Center. Please say hi if you are attending.

More Feedback on Swift and Otter Group at CIL

My time at CIL was short so I didn’t attend much, including the feedback session for Swift. I am glad to get caught up via some excellent blogging: Ryan Deschamps: http://otherlibrarian.wordpress.com/2008/04/13/no-tell-me-what-you-really-think/ I think ITI got user needs right for the conference. My needs? Top of the line speakers, organized sessions with paths to help me keep things relevant. Great moderators that help both audiences and presenters feel good about the space they are speaking in. Easy access to the internet (the only miss this time around — I’m sure they’ll learn for next time though). Ways to hook up with […]

Off to CIL! Washington in the Spring

I’m recovering from a great weekend finishing up LIS768 in Minnesota – more projects will be posted soon — but now I am heading to the airport and to Computers in Libraries. I can already tell from the Flickring etc that Gaming and Gadgets was the place to be last night…sorry I missed. Must be my devious plan to avoid the DDR pad… I have two left feet! If you are attending my talk with Michael Casey, please say hi.

“Get over it” – and Experiment: Notes from a 2.0 Presentation at PLA

“Get over it,” Maney said about taking on some of those emerging tools and social media – “Experiment.” She also echoed some of the current thinking around exploration and learning. “Play,” she said. “It’s what your users are already doing.” What an excellent reason to start a Learning 2.0 program — something Maney noted her library and the State of Arizona were taking on! WooHoo! Read the whole post here. Listen to the presentations here.

PLA Presentation: Scary Things & Great Opportunities

Although brief, I had a great time at PLA. The folks I talked to were fired up about many of the sessions. I was also glad to see some old friends. I took a quick view of where we are in 2008 with the use of Web 2.0 in libraries. The cool thing I realized from listening to Jen and John was we were all really talking about people and planning, decisions and great opportunities. A lot of the discussion and questions focused on users and how the library offers access. I misquoted the ALA Code of Ethics in my […]

Thank You CAVAL & Australia!

I am finally getting back into the swing after a few days of jetlag and some much needed downtime in Indiana for Easter Break. Right now I’m catching up on my students’ blogs and doing some grading but I can’t help think about three weeks on the other side of the world. Australia is the farthest I have ever traveled from home and the whole process of travel/making a journey fascinates me. I visited thriving cities, took in some sites and spent two sun-scorched days in the Red Center. Uluru amazed me. I am honored to have made this trip […]
